2024 Canoe and Kayak Racing Schedule
By Don Mueggenborg. An early season update to this year’s races. At this time some races are scheduled and some are tentative.
Scheduled Races as of 1-22-2024
- May 4: Current Buster – Fox River, St Charles, IL
- Race for both kayaks and Canoes
- Short race and long race: both go upstream and return
- 50th Anniversary of the race this year!
- There is a class for whatever you are paddling
- Hosted by The St. Charles Canoe Club
- May 19: Des Plaines River Canoe/kayak/SUP Marathon
- The largest and oldest race in Illinois
- Two options: a long 18.5 mile race and a short 5 mile race
- There are over 20 classes competitive and citizen racers
- The majority of paddlers are in recreational classes, but plenty of competitive ones
- Sept 15 Vic Hopp Memorial Canoe Race: Fox River above Chain of Lakes
- Starts in Wisconsin, goes to Illinois and return
- Sept 29 Fall Classic – Fox River, St Charles, IL
- Similar course to Current Buster
- Hosted by The St. Charles Canoe Club
Tentative Races
- Early June – Mid-America Canoe Race Fox River St Charles to Aurora
- 2nd Oldest race in Illinois
- Many classes canoes and Kayaks
- Good race for recreational paddlers
- Mid- June Voyageur Landing Canoe/Kayak Race Fox River Elgin
- Classes for recreational and competitive paddlers
- Races held later in the Summer
- Vermillion River: Pontiac
- Joe Kowsky Memorial Canoe Kayak Race, DuPage River Channahon, Illinois
