DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Annual Gathering of the Paddlers Dinner: Saturday\, November 8 2025 at 5:30pm. \nPlease note the reception and networking begins at 5:30 and the program and dinner will begin at 6:00 pm\, it’s encouraged to arrive between 5:15 pm and 5:30 pm to get your seat before the program kicks off. \nThis year our featured speaker is Jim Tibensky. Jim has a lifelong love of volunteering and takes youth on therapy trips to the Everglades and the Coast of Maine and rescues injured aquatic birds from his kayak. He started canoe racing in 1966 before it was much of a sport in the US and has been on expeditions from the Mississippi River to the Grand Canyon and Greenland. Jim Tibensky will share some of those experiences and more in his well-titled talk and presentation “Things Jim Has Done in Canoes and Kayaks That You’re Sure to Find Interesting and as Much Fun as He Did”. \nDinner is buffet style and will include a vegetarian option. SUMMARY:Fall Classic Race
DESCRIPTION:Come and challenge your canoe\, kayak\, sup\, and rowing racing skills at the St Charles Canoe Club Fall Classic Race at Ferson Creek Park\, St Charles IL. There are morning and afternoon races. You bring a boat we will have a class for it. Registration is the day of race. The morning race starts at 9:30AM and the afternoon race starts at 1:00PM. (The race is only one day Sunday only)  \nRace includes a short course for the Recreation Kayak Class and anyone who does not want to enter the long course. Short Course is 5 miles and the Long Course is 9 miles. All races begin and end at Ferson Creek Park\, no shuttling is required. Race is also open for rowing as well. We will add classes for other boat types as needed. The course is all deep water. (You will need to bring your own boat as rental boats are not officially available for the event)  \nRegistration cost is $20 for doing one or two races. Registration is done on the Day of the Race and opens at 8:00AM.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“You bring it we will have a class for it”   We look forward to seeing you!

DESCRIPTION:The Annual Riverside Regatta is on July 5th. A spectacle you won’t want to miss. \nThis year celebrates Riverside Sesquicentennial. please joun us as we paddle the De Plaines River. we will have Colored Smoke Bombs available on Green and Blue\, the 150 colors. Please message us if you’d like to participate and bring a glove to hold the colored Smoke bomb.\nParticipants will meet at Schuths Grove at Cermak & Des Plaines in North Riverside. From there paddle south and wrap around the village\, congregate at the Swan Pond area to regroup\, then pass under the Swinging Bridge as a group. Exiting the River will take place at Stony Ford Canoe Landing 43rd & Oak in Lyons. The buddy system is suggested for both the water and transportation from the end point back to the starting point. Participants are responsible for their own equipment\, safety\, and following IDNR rules.\nThose without watercraft are encouraged to spectate on bridges at Forest Ave\, Barrypoint\, and most scenic the Swinging Bridge. Please post photos to this page so they can be shared. Age: Ages 13 and older. Registration required by Thursday\, Sept. 5\, by calling 815-727-8700 or online Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet\, and don’t forget your sunscreen\, sunglasses and a water bottle. Previous kayaking experience is required\, as this is a recreational program and not an instructional paddling program. All equipment is provided\, including personal flotation devices. The launch area is accessible and can be reached by a paved trail from the parking lot. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.

SUMMARY:Firecracker Race - Mississippi River
DESCRIPTION:We are moving the Firecracker Race date back to where it all started\, close to Independence Day. The Firecracker Race will again be held on the Mississippi River on Saturday July 6\, 2024. Just as last year\, paddlers will race on a 15 mile downriver course from Grafton access to the Alton riverfront (see map below). The race will end at the Alton marina. After the race come to the Old Bakery Beer Company within walking distance or a short drive for a free meal on us. There we will have the award ceremony and raffle starting at 3:30. There will be a cash bar for drinks. Those that cannot attend the dinner and ceremony afterwards are offered a race t-shirt from us. Those that attend the dinner are offered a race t-shirt for an additional $15.
