DESCRIPTION:2026: Sixty-Nine Years Paddling the Des Plaines River\nRace day is May\, 17\, 2026\n  \nRegistration and all other information at: canoemarathon.com \nThe beautiful course runs 18.5 miles on the upper Des Plaines River in northern Illinois. The race begins in Libertyville\, IL and ends in Cook County\, IL (near Mount Prospect). \nAdded in 2014\, the 5.25 mile Minithon ends at the same finish line as the longstanding 18.5 mile Marathon. The Minithon begins at Potawatamie Woods and ends in Cook County\, IL (near Mount Prospect). \nWe wish you abundant enjoyment and success with your preparation and participation. \n  \nThe race is …(almost always) the Sunday before Memorial Day weekend.

DESCRIPTION:The Annual Riverside Regatta is on July 5th. A spectacle you won’t want to miss. \nThis year celebrates Riverside Sesquicentennial. please joun us as we paddle the De Plaines River. we will have Colored Smoke Bombs available on Green and Blue\, the 150 colors. Please message us if you’d like to participate and bring a glove to hold the colored Smoke bomb.\nParticipants will meet at Schuths Grove at Cermak & Des Plaines in North Riverside. From there paddle south and wrap around the village\, congregate at the Swan Pond area to regroup\, then pass under the Swinging Bridge as a group. Exiting the River will take place at Stony Ford Canoe Landing 43rd & Oak in Lyons. The buddy system is suggested for both the water and transportation from the end point back to the starting point. Participants are responsible for their own equipment\, safety\, and following IDNR rules.\nThose without watercraft are encouraged to spectate on bridges at Forest Ave\, Barrypoint\, and most scenic the Swinging Bridge. Please post photos to this page so they can be shared. Feel free to share this event and invite others.\nAftergather for refueling and rehydration at TBD \n\n\nA less than 2 hour paddle\, with an optional “join us for munchies or meal” in down town Riverside IL. \nMeet: 10am \nStart: Schuths Grove\, North Riverside 22nd and Des Plaines \nEnd: Stony Ford Woods Lyons

Please join us for a one-day workshop where we will discuss\, explore and learn more about the removal of sand and sediment\, numerous waterfront initiatives\, continued monitoring of water quality and quantity\, and other initiatives and on-going activities on and within the Kankakee River watershed.\nThere is no fee for attending\, and box lunches will be provided.\nThe Kankakee River is an essential natural resource for the health and vitality of our area. Sustainable stewardship of this remarkable asset is of concern to multiple interests. By bringing together all stakeholders for a day of education\, conversation and networking\, the intent is to bridge gaps and forge new partnerships to ensure a continually improving watershed for the good of all residents.
